Sketch N Scrap Card Challenge #68

Today I have another card sketch for you to add to your stash. This one is pretty generic and can be interpreted many ways. Check out what the other design team members did with this sketch at Sketch-N-Scrap.
I know a certain guy who's turning 12 this year and this sketch worked perfect for my idea!

Remember my post from a couple of days ago? Fun with molds & melts? I mentioned I was starting to work on a Tim Holtz Configurations Box. I kinda got sidetracked that day! I did however get back to the boxes. This is the first one I've ever done. I know, they've been around for a while, I've even had this one in my stash for quite some time. I took one 5.75" square box and made it into 3 separate pieces!
This is my first box:
The angel wings were made the other day while I was playing with my molds.

My second piece is made up of 3 left over boxes.

I wanted to put a tiny nest in this one so I made one quick with moss and my glue gun. Look at those teeny tiny eggs!
I colored the eggs with alcohol inks. The cream frame and the little blue bird were made with the mod melter.
Lastly I had the lid left over from the box so I made a square piece out of chipboard to glue inside the hole. Once it was painted and covered with paper it masked the fact that it's the lid.
I hope this inspires you to have some fun and create with these boxes!

Items I used in this layout:
White Card Stock
Paper Studios • Holly Jolly Paper Pack
Basic Grey • Hopscotch • Mini Mono Stickers

Happy Valentines Day!

This is the first year the kiddos made valentine boxes at home. We scoured pinterest for ideas and came up with a ton of them. Minion boxes, castles, ponies, cars, trains... Too many possibilities! When I started really thinking about it I decided to do the same thing for all three. That way no one could be upset that theirs wasn't "as cool".  I pitched the idea of mail boxes to the kids telling them how much fun it would be to have a mailbox in their room after Valentines. They could write each other letters and play mailman. It worked, they were hooked.

I started with 3 boxes roughly the same size. After figuring out the way to put the first one together, I was able to put the other two together in less than 20 minutes.
The next step was to gesso the boxes. It really helped in painting later.
The kids got to pick out what colors they wanted and I painted the boxes. They got to add stickers and glitter. They were pretty pleased with the end results.
For their handouts in school, Brileigh made paper flowers to put on top of her "Awesome Sauce". Brett bagged up some Smarties and Rylan gave fish bowls.
They came home from school with mailboxes packed full of goodies, so I'd say it was a good day!

Fun with Melts and Molds

So today I decided I wanted to do something with the Configuration Boxes that I've had laying around. I'm thinking a spring theme, butterflies, flowers and birds kinda thing.  Now we will travel down the rabbit hole...

I have a ton of various molds that I have picked up here and there and I knew there were some that would work perfectly. I also purchased a Mod Podge Mod Melter.  I was excited about this gadget because of the fine point end. Since you can also use glue sticks in this it would be perfect for when you need a tiny dab of hot glue.

I had some Milk Glass White mod melt sticks so I started with those. Overall the result is very nice. I used 3 sticks to make a handful of little bits and bobs.
It shows such nice detail and I love the creamy white!
On to the bad... The thing never stops oozing!! I set it down to grab another mold and it just kept dripping,
 and dripping.
Every time I sat it down. Making a nice pile of Mod Melt to throw away.
I also had my Ranger Melting Pot out and used that to make some of the same items. I melted some clear powder with some platinum to make a beautiful rich color.
So many fun little things to play with!

While I was at it, I made 3 new molds with the Amazing Mold Putty. I LOVE this stuff! The yellow items on the top are the mold, below them are the items I used to make the mold and the bottom shows the items I made with the mold. Pouring utee into the molds. I did a video on the mold putty back in December. The post on that is HERE.
Now where was I? Oh yes, the configuration boxes, time to get back to those.

So it begins....

I have held out long enough. I even close my eyes when I walk by them at the store chanting to myself "I don't need copics, I don't need copics". Sigh, we all knew this story would end.

Sketch N Scrap Card Challenge #67

I have another great card sketch to inspire you today! Head on over to the Sketch-N-Scrap blog to see what the design team came up with!
I find that I do not use washi tape very often. I have a ton of it, like every other good scraper, but for some reason it sits idly by. Today however it was the perfect way to add color on my card, I hope to use more soon!

Snow Day

Well the Midwest blizzard they were talking about showed up. We are snowed in for the day. Luckily we have not lost power, (knock on wood). And amazingly I still have internet! So if you are looking for me, I'll be holed up in my craft room creating all day. :)
